Bryan Station (18-9) vs. Henry Clay (26-2)

Bryan Station coach Jackie Williams started the following lineup:  6-0 Jr. Tracy Harbut, 6-0 8th grader Crystal Leach, 5-9 Sr. Sharia Young, 5-5 8th grader Bradli Stinson, and 5-7 8th grader Carley Blankenship.  Henry Clay coach Scott Cromwell countered with 6-1 Jr. Leah Hill, 6-0 So. Mary Tobin, 5-9 Sr. Katie Columbus, 5-7 Sr. Nastassia Alcius, and 5-5 So. Johnna Carlisle.

Henry Clay rallied from a 33-26 halftime deficit to defeat Bryan Station by a score of 79-68.  Henry Clay went on a 16-0 run in the third quarter to take a 49-38 lead.  Bryan Station fought back in the fourth quarter to pull within two, 63-61, midway through the fourth quarter before Henry Clay went on an 11-0 run to ensure the victory and district championship.  Henry Clay outshot Bryan Station 47.8%-39% from the field and held a 42-35 rebound edge.

Henry Clay was led tonight by tourney MVP Nastassia Alcius with 30 points and nine rebounds.  Alcius was 12 of 20 from the field including three of four from the three point line.  Katie Columbus scored all 15 of her points in the second half.  Johnna Carlisle added 14 points, six rebounds, and five assists.  Mary Tobin chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds.  Bryan Station was led tonight by Tracy Harbut with 26 points and nine rebounds.  5-10 Sr. Ashlee Crump came off the bench to add 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sharia Young and Bradli Stinson added 13 and 11 points respectively.  Nastassia Alcius was a clear-cut and deserving choice for MVP but you cannot overlook the contributions of Katie ColumbusColumbus had zero points in the first half on zero for seven from the field.  However, Columbus kept working and went six for eight from the field and three for four from the charity stripe to tally 15 points in the decisive second half.  I have seen Columbus play several times and have always been impressed with her work ethic and enthusiasm.
