KBA Player Showcase 2005

Kentucky Basketball Academy
Lexington, Kentucky
March 25-26, 2005

©2005 by Ron Harrison

This camp is designed to help unsigned senior basketball players get exposure to colleges in the area.  There were also a small number of juniors at the camp.

Game Rules
Games will consist of four 10-minute quarters, with the clock stopping on the last minute of each half.  Teams get two timeouts each half, with no carryover.  Players foul out on their sixth personal foul.

Substitutions
Substitutions will take place at five minute intervals throughout the game.  Before each game, a rotation will be designated.

Defensive Rules
Teams should alternate playing man-to-man and zone defenses each five minutes, so that the college coaches can see players in a variety of defenses.  Teams may full-court press in the fourth quarter only.

All other game rules will follow KHSAA and NFHSA rules.

Conclusion

I have attempted to give a brief recap of each game played in this camp.  I apologize in advance for any misspelled names or errors in the stats as I hurriedly transcribed the statistics from the scoresheets. This report is meant to be an overview of the camp and not an instrument for ascertaining precise individual records.

The final team records were:  Team 8 (5-1), Team 2 (5-1), Team 3 (4-2), Team 4 (3-3), Team 5 (3-3), Team 6 (3-3), Team 1 (1-5), and Team 7 (0-6).  Team 8 defeated Team 2 Saturday morning in a 79-78 double overtime victory.  Team 8’s only loss came to Team 3 by a score of 64-62.

There were four award plaques given out the final day of camp.  Corey Clark (Jeffersontown) and Alex Harless (Bryan Station) were named camp MVPs.  Kenny Thomas (Ft. Campbell) received the best playmaker and Jeff Hughes (Jeffersontown) received the best defensive player award.

Several other players had excellent camps, capping off good seasons.  Jon-Michael Fletcher (Breckenridge County) averaged 17.7 ppg for camp and displayed the ability to play both inside and out.  Blake McCowan (Morgan County) is a solid post performer who can score.  Brandon Moment (Bryan Station) gives 110% and put up decent numbers across the board.  Zach Montgomery (Lafayette) is a slasher who can score and rebound. Dustin Fox (Dunbar) is a scorer with a nice outside stroke.

Brett Durham (East Jessamine) has excellent range on his jumper.  Kyle Miller (Piketon, OH) is an excellent scorer who ran up 31 points in one game at camp.  Shun Trevillian (Lansanne Collegiate, TN) is a ballhandler who can create and score.  Andre Tunstill (Dunbar) is an aggressive athletic player who does a little of everything.  Cleve Washington (Hazard) is another athletic performer who is always around the ball.  Bryantt Furman (Rowan County) is an excellent post player who can nail the midrange shot.  Matthew Karn (Ohio County) is a solid player who can score and rebounds.  Dyron Carter (Tates Creek) is an athletic performer who penetrates well.

Patrick Bragg (Frayser, TN) is a crafty point guard who can shoot.  Matt Roberts (Trimble County) is a 5-8 leaper who can shoot the ball.  Tino Washington (Bryan Station) has good knowledge of game, is quick, a good defender and floor general who can score when needed.  Andrew Parks (Corbin) always comes to play, is a good rebounder and scorer with a very quick first step to the basket.  Daniel Durr (Scott County), a hard worker with decent post moves, averaged 11.8 ppg and 9.0 rpg in camp—he works hard to get rebounds.

Brandon Adams (Caverna) also had an excellent camp.  Adams is athletic, passes well, and can create his own shot.  Adams appears to possess a true love for the game and played extremely hard.  Alex Harless (Bryan Station) averaged 17.3 ppg during camp and is an athletic slasher who can defend.  Corey Clark (Jeffersontown) is an athletic slasher with a nice jump shot.  Jeff Hughes (Jeffersontown) scored and rebounded well at camp, displayed a nice inside-out game and is a good defender.  Kenny Thomas (Ft. Campbell) is quick, a good passer, and a good defender.

Several other players, too many to mention here, played well and played extremely hard this weekend.  This is an excellent venue for players to perform and be seen.  The KBA staff did an excellent job and hopefully this will become an annual event.
