Tates Creek (3-0) at Henry Clay (0-1)

Tates Creek coach Joe Pat Covington started the following lineup:  6-4 Jr. John Watkins, 6-2 So. Michael Sparks, 6-6 Sr. Pete Nochta, 5-10 Sr. Greg Combs, and 5-10 Sr. Jaron Thomas.  Henry Clay coach Kirk Chiles countered with 6-4 So. Aaron Boyd, 6-2 Sr. Aaron Miller, 6-4 So. Victor Moses, 5-11 Jr. Travis Bowman, and 6-2 Sr. Aaron Dunaway.

Henry Clay held off a late rally to defeat Tates Creek 71-68.  Henry Clay held a 66-55 lead with 2:47 left in the game but Tates Creek rallied to cut the deficit to three, 66-63, with 1:28 left on the clock.  Aaron Dunaway hit two field goals to ensure victory for the Blue Devils.  Tates Creek’s Nash Baldwin nailed a three-pointer in the final second to pull Tates Creek within three points, 71-68, to end the scoring.

Henry Clay shot 58.7% from the field including three of five from behind the arc.  The Blue Devils connected on 14 of 24 free throws and pulled down 21 rebounds.  Henry Clay scored 22 points off 22 Tates Creek turnovers.  Tates Creek shot 48.9% from the field including five of 12 from the three point line.  The Commodores connected on 19 of 28 free throws and grabbed 26 rebounds.  Tates Creek scored 24 points off 21 Henry Clay turnovers and held a 29-1 advantage in bench scoring.

Aaron Miller led Henry Clay with 26 points.  Aaron Dunaway and Aaron Boyd added 17 and 12 points respectively.  John Watkins and 6-5 Sr. Patrick Workman led Tates Creek with 15 points each.  Jaron Thomas and 5-8 Sr. Nash Baldwin added 13 and 11 points respectively.
