Lexington Catholic (19-5) at Scott County (20-3)

Lexington Catholic coach Brandon Salsman started the following lineup:  6-4 Sr. Mike Heissenbuttel, 6-5 So. Taylor Stewart, 6-5 So. Nathan Novosel, 5-10 Sr. Arian Green, and 6-3 Sr. Brian Hewitt.  Scott County coach Billy Hicks countered with 6-3 Jr. Rodney Haddix, 6-3 So. Bud Mackey, 6-5 So. Tyler Portwood, 5-10 Sr. Jesse Thompson, and 6-4 Jr. Matt Walls.

Scott County outscored Lexington Catholic 30-10 in the third quarter to erase a 35-27 halftime deficit on their way to an 81-63 victory.  Scott County’s victory snapped a 14 game winning streak that included an earlier victory over Scott County.  This was a game of runs as Lexington Catholic scored the last 12 points of the first half to take a 35-27 lead at the intermission.  The Cardinals came out of the locker room with renewed enthusiasm in the second half and went on a 12-2 run to take a 39-37 lead.  Lexington Catholic tied the score at 39-39 but Scott County closed out the quarter with an 18-6 run to take a 57-45 lead and gain control of the game.

Scott County shot 48.1% from the field including four of 15 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on 27 of 36 from the free throw line, pulled down 51 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 13 Lexington Catholic turnovers.  Lexington Catholic shot 33.8% from the field including six of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Knights connected on 13 of 24 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 24 Scott County turnovers.  Lexington Catholic held a 19-7 advantage in bench scoring.

Matt Walls led five Scott County players in double figures with 22 points.  Walls also pulled down 15 rebounds and dished out four assists.  Bud Mackey and Jesse Thompson added 16 and 14 points respectively.  Rodney Haddix chipped in with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Tyler Portwood also reached double figures with 10 points.

Nathan Novosel led Lexington Catholic with 23 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Brian Hewitt added 17 points including three three point baskets and recorded five steals.  6-0 Sr. Cornell Burbage came off the bench to add eight points.
