Tates Creek (15-8) at Scott County (20-4)

Tates Creek coach Joe Pat Covington started the following lineup:  6-5 Sr. Patrick Workman, 6-2 So. Michael Sparks, 6-6 Sr. Pete Nochta, 5-10 So. Mike Spalding, and 5-10 Sr. Greg Combs.  Scott County coach Billy Hicks countered with 6-3 Jr. Rodney Haddix, 6-3 So. Bud Mackey, 6-5 So. Tyler Portwood, 5-10 Sr. Jesse Thompson, and 6-4 Jr. Matt Walls.

Scott County survived a determined effort by Tates Creek to record a 69-65 victory on senior night.  Tates Creek led 22-13 at the end of the first quarter and held a 35-29 advantage at halftime.  Scott County stormed back in the third quarter to take a 48-46 lead into the final period.  The game remained close in the fourth quarter but Scott County’s Tyler Portwood ensured the victory with two free throws with 6.2 seconds remaining in the game to give Scott County 69-65 victory.

Scott County shot 39.7% from the field including six of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Cardinals connected on 17 of 23 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 19 Tates Creek turnovers.  Tates Creek shot 38.6% from the field including only one of 12 from the three point line.  The Commodores connected on 20 of 29 free throws, grabbed 45 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 16 Scott County turnovers.  Tates Creek held a 16-8 advantage in second chance points.

Matt Walls led Scott County with 23 points including three three point baskets.  Walls added nine rebounds and five assists.  Rodney Haddix added 17 points and Bud Mackey chipped in with 11 points including three three point baskets.  6-3 So. Cam Hundley pulled down seven rebounds.

Michael Sparks led Tates Creek with 21 points.  Patrick Workman added 18 points and 11 rebounds.  Mike Spalding chipped in with 10 points.
