Paul L. Dunbar (19-6) vs. Lexington Christian Academy (20-6) (Girls)

Paul L. Dunbar coach Michael Sowers started the following lineup:  5-8 So. Chelsey Johnson, 5-7 So. Pilar Walker, 5-11 So. Chantelle Pressley, 5-5 So. Megan LaRue, and 5-5 Jr. Annbruce Madden.  Lexington Christian Academy coach Donna Murphy countered with 5-11 8th grade Sarah Beth Barnette, 5-9 Sr. Noell Jones, 6-1 Fr. Clara Mitchell, 5-9 Fr. Anna Martin, and 5-7 Jr. Emily London.

Dunbar rallied from a 44-33 deficit midway through the third quarter to defeat Lexington Christian Academy 66-62.  Dunbar still trailed 51-48 early in the fourth quarter but went on a 10-4 run to take a 58-55 lead.  The Lady Bulldogs hit six free throws down the stretch to ensure the victory.  Dunbar’s three point proficiency (nine of 17) allowed them to stay in the game and mount their comeback. 

Dunbar shot 40.4% from the field including nine of 17 from beyond the arc, connected on 15 of 22 free throws, and pulled down 24 rebounds.  The Lady Bulldogs scored 29 points off 24 LCA turnovers and held a 27-9 advantage in three point points.  LCA shot 53.7% from the field including three of six from the three point line.  The Lady Eagles pulled down 35 rebounds and scored 15 points off 15 Dunbar turnovers.

Annbruce Madden led Dunbar with 20 points including four of seven from the three point line.  Madden also dished out five assists.  Pilar Walker added 15 points including three three point baskets and Chelsey Johnson chipped in with 12 points.  Clara Mitchell led LCA with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocked shots.  Anna Martin added 20 points and Emily London chipped in with 12 points and seven assists.

Lexington Christian Academy coach Jason Seamands started the following lineup:  6-3 Sr. Tyler Rogers, 6-6 Sr. Seth Lawless, 6-4 Sr. Clay Turner, 6-0 Sr. Blake Morris, and 5-11 Rich Ludka.  Lafayette coach Damon Kelley countered with 6-3 Sr. Greg Leslie, 5-10 So. Dante Stewart, 6-8 Sr. Tyler Wilkerson, 5-10 So. Tommy Gifford, and 6-1 Sr. Pete Gifford.

Lafayette avenged a 70-66 loss to Lexington Christian Academy in January with an 83-71 victory tonight.  Lafayette raced out to a 36-20 halftime lead and utilized a balanced scoring attack to earn the victory. 

Lafayette shot 52.3% from the field including five of 16 from the three point line.  The Generals connected on 10 of 14 free throws and pulled down 46 rebounds.  They scored 16 points off 11 LCA turnovers and held a 21-11 advantage in second chance points.  LCA shot 37.1% from the field including 11 of 28 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on eight of 12 free throws and pulled down 31 rebounds.  Lexington Christian Academy held a 33-15 advantage in three point points. 

Dante Stewart and Tyler Wilkerson led Lafayette with 21 points each.  Stewart connected on three of five from beyond the arc and Wilkerson pulled down 17 rebounds and blocked six shots.  Greg Leslie added 13 points and eight rebounds.  Tommy Gifford and Pete Gifford both reached double figures with 10 points and Pete pulled down seven rebounds and dished out eight assists.

Tyler Rogers led Lexington Christian Academy with 18 points including three three point baskets and pulled down seven rebounds.  Clay Turner added 16 points and nine rebounds.  Rich Ludka chipped in with 13 points and six assists.  Rogers, Morris, and Ludka each recorded three baskets from beyond the arc.

Tates Creek (2-24) vs. Lexington Catholic (26-1) (Girls)  Semifinal

Tates Creek coach Justin Cheatham started the following lineup:  5-7 Jr. Karrie Webber, 5-7 So. Marquis Axtell, 5-8 Jr. Nikki Durman, 5-6 Jr. Spenser Davis, and 5-6 Fr. Ray Ochoa.  Lexington Catholic coach Greg Todd countered with 5-10 So. Natalie Novosel, 5-7 So. Briana Green, 6-0 Sr. Anaris Sickles, 5-7 Jr. Keyla Snowden, and 5-8 Sr. Nikki Davis.

Lexington Catholic scored 28 points off 23 Tates Creek turnovers in the first half as they took a 42-9 halftime lead on their way to a 67-14 victory.  Nine players cracked the scoring column for Lexington Catholic with no player logging more than 23:04 minutes. 

The victors shot 41.5% from the field, connected on 11 of 16 free throws, and pulled down 41 rebounds.  The Lady Knights scored 38 points off 36 Tates Creek turnovers and held a 20-0 advantage in second chance points.  Tates Creek shot 22.7% from the field, connected on three of 12 free throws, and grabbed 21 rebounds. 

Anaris Sickles led Lexington Catholic with 15 points and six rebounds.  Natalie Novosel added 12 points, seven rebounds, and six steals.  Keyla Snowden chipped in with 10 points.  Marquis Axtell led Tates Creek with five points.

Taylor Stewart, 6-4 Sr. Mike Heissenbuttel, 6-5 So. Nathan Novosel, 5-10 Sr. Arian Green, and 6-3 Sr. Brian Hewitt.

Lexington Catholic survived a late three point barrage by Tates Creek to claim a 64-57 victory.  6-2 Jr. Chris Floyd nailed four three point bombs in the fourth quarter to keep Tates Creek in the game.  His last three point goal pulled the Commodores to within four, 61-57, with 14.6 seconds remaining in the game but the Knights held on for the victory. 

Lexington Catholic shot 45.1% from the field including three of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Knights connected on 15 of 20 free throws, and pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 18 Tates Creek turnovers.  Tates Creek shot 32.6% from the field including five of 15 from the three point line.  The Commodores connected on 22 of 26 free throws and grabbed 30 rebounds.  Tates Creek scored 15 points off 17 Lexington Catholic turnovers. 

Taylor Stewart led Lexington Catholic with 19 points and six rebounds.  Nathan Novosel and Brian Hewitt added 12 and 10 points respectively.  Michael Sparks, despite suffering from the flu, led Tates Creek with 16 points.  Patrick Workman added 12 points including 10 of 13 free throws and pulled down eight rebounds.  Chris Floyd also tallied 12 points.

Que’ Christian, 5-5 Jr. Cassandra Lawson, and 5-6 Sr. Katie Kelly.

Lafayette held a 42.2%-26.4% advantage in field goal shooting accuracy in a 53-49 victory over Paul Dunbar.  Lafayette connected on 14 of 23 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, scored 14 points off 14 Dunbar turnovers, and recorded 10 blocked shots.  Dunbar connected on 18 of 28 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 18 Lafayette turnovers. 

6-0 So. Bailey Dillender came off the bench to lead Lafayette with 13 points.  Terrell Coles added 10 points.  Cassandra Lawson, Que’ Christian, and Katie Aldrich each chipped in with nine points.  Aldrich and Christian each pulled down seven rebounds and Christian blocked five shots.  Katie Kelly dished out seven assists.  Annbruce Madden led Dunbar with 12 points.  Chantelle Pressley added 10 points and 11 rebounds and Chelsey Johnson recorded 11 points.  5-10 8th grade Ebony Rowe pulled down eight rebounds.

Dunbar held a 43-38 lead after three quarters and outscored Lafayette 26-16 in the final period to earn a 69-54 victory.  The victorious Bulldogs scored 23 points off 21 Lafayette turnovers and outscored the Generals 21-5 from the free throw line.

Dunbar shot 45.1% from the field, connected on 21 of 26 free throws, and pulled down 29 rebounds.  Lafayette shot 38.1% from the field including only one of 16 from the three point line.  The Generals connected on five of eight free throws, and grabbed 43 rebounds.  Lafayette held a 20-8 advantage in offensive rebounds and a 15-6 advantage in second chance points.

Brandon Sok led Dunbar with 21 points including 15 of 16 from the free throw line.  Dion Johnson added 19 points and six steals and Nick Hudson recorded 11 points and six rebounds.   Deontay Wright tallied six points and eight rebounds.  Tyler Wilkerson led Lafayette with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and eight blocked shots.  Pete Gifford and Dante Stewart added 13 and 12 points respectively.  Greg Leslie scored two points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Lexington Catholic shot 42.6% from the field, connected on 17 of 18 free throws, and pulled down 28 rebounds.  Lafayette shot 42.2% from the field connected on seven of 10 free throws, and pulled down 30 rebounds.

Keyla Snowden led Lexington Catholic with 16 points including four of six shots from beyond the arc and recorded five steals.  Briana Green and 6-0 Fr. Malik Stevenson added 12 points each, and Anaris Sickles recorded 10 points and six rebounds.  Nikki Davis added nine points and was credited with six steals.  Katie Aldrich and Que’ Christian led Lafayette with 10 points each.  Christian pulled down 11 rebounds and blocked two shots.  Katie Kelly added nine points.

Lexington Catholic raced out to a 12-0 lead and a 20-9 first quarter but had to survive a furious second half rally by Dunbar to record a hard-earned 55-53 victory.  Dunbar actually held a 47-45 lead with 3:06 remaining in the fourth quarter but Lexington Catholic regained the lead on a three point basket by Brian Hewitt to make the score 48-47 with less than three minutes left in the game.  The Knights managed to hold on down the stretch to earn the victory.

Lexington Catholic shot 45.3% from the field, including three of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Knights connected on only four of 11 free throws and pulled down 34 rebounds.  They scored 20 points off 21 Dunbar turnovers.  Dunbar shot 34% from the field, including seven of 16 from the three point line.  The Bulldogs connected on 12 of 22 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds.  Lexington Catholic committed 19 turnovers but Dunbar could only capitalize for seven points.

Brian Hewitt led Lexington Catholic with 18 points.  6-0 Sr. Cornell Burbage added 11 points and Nathan Novosel recorded 10 points and nine rebounds.  Brandon Sok led Dunbar with 18 points including four three point baskets.  Deontay Wright added 10 points, pulled down nine rebounds, and blocked three shots.
