Monday February 23rd

 

Tates Creek  (17-10)  vs.  Paul L. Dunbar  (20-6)  (Girls)

 

Tates Creek coach Justin Cheatham started the following lineup: 5-8 Jr. Lizza Jonas, 6-0 Jr. Jasmine Franklin, 6-1 Fr. Peyton Hisel, 5-6 Sr. Betsy Goodin, and 5-5 Sr. Kyleigh Kreyenbuhl.  Dunbar coach Michael Sowers countered with 5-4 Sr. Lauren Mitchell, 5-4 So. Christin Haney, 6-1 Jr. Ebony Rowe, 5-5 Sr. Ashley Lucas, and 5-5 Sr. Erin Lucas.

 

Tates Creek led 23-22 at halftime but Dunbar rallied in the second half to earn a 62-41 victory.  Dunbar shot 36.4% from the field including three of nine from the three point line.  The Lady Bulldogs connected on 19 of 31 free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 22 Tates Creek turnovers.  Tates Creek shot 30.6% from the field including two of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Commodores connected on nine of 15 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 15 Dunbar turnovers.

 

Ebony Rowe led Dunbar with 22 points and 20 rebounds.  Christin Haney added 13 points and seven assists.

 

Peyton Hisel led Tates Creek with 13 points and 12 assists.  Betsy Goodin added 12 points.

Marcellus Barksdale, 6-4 Jr. Ezra Garner, 6-2 So. Ryan Fucci, and 5-9 Sr. Jordan Hagan.

 

Tates Creek defeated Dunbar by a score of 58-47.  Tates Creek shot 51.4% from the field including four of 12 from the three point line.  The Commodores connected on 16 of 26 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 12 Dunbar turnovers.  Dunbar shot 38.8% from the field including six of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Bulldogs connected on three of seven free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 14 Tates Creek turnovers.

 

Marcellus Barksdale led Tates Creek with 16 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.  Ryan Fucci added 15 points and seven rebounds.

 

Nick Hudson led Dunbar with 17 points including two three point baskets.  Marquis Clay and 6-2 Sr. Tod Lanter added 10 points each.  Tyler Rogers pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

Lafayette<  (20-8)  vs.  Lexington Christian Academy  (24-4)  (Girls)

 

Lafayette coach Allison Denton started the following lineup: 5-8 Jr. Lisa Hack, 5-3 Jr. Jameka Gillespie, 6-0 Sr. Jessica Walker, 5-7 Jr. Ali Ross, and 5-5 Sr. Maya Hanatani.  Lexington Christian Academy coach Jason Seamands countered with 5-10 Sr. Anna Martin, 6-2 Jr. Sarah Beth Barnette, 5-10 Sr. Caitlin Dorton, 5-5 So. Rachel Cox, and 5-11 Sr. Courtney Clifton.

 

Lexington Christian led 35-29  with three minutes to go in the third quarter and pulled away late for a 57-41 victory over Lafayette.  LCA shot 51% from the field including five of 10 from the three point line.  The Lady Eagles connected on two of three free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 12 Lafayette turnovers.  Lafayette shot 30.6% from the field including four of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Generals connected on seven of 11 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 11 LCA turnovers.

 

Courtney Clifton led LCA with 22 points including three three point baskets.  Sarah Beth Barnette added 21 points, nine rebounds, and three blocked shots.

 

Lisa Hack led Lafayette with 16 points including two three point baskets.  Ali Ross added seven points.  Jessica Walker pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

Lexington Christian Academy coach Tommy Huston started the following lineup: 6-6 Jr. Will Evans, 6-2 Jr. Branden Burdette, 6-5 Sr. Grant Sparks, 5-8 Jr. Will Kindred, and 5-10 Fr. Taylor Barnette.  Lafayette coach Damon Kelley countered with 6-2 Jr. Tanner Napier, 6-0 Sr. Tyler Barber, 6-3 Jr. Micah Miller, 5-8 Jr. Wells Lawless, and 5-11 Jr. Mike Walker.

 

Lafayette outscored Lexington Christian 12-8 in the final period to earn a 40-38 victory.  Lafayette shot 27.9% from the field including three of 11 from the three point line.  The Generals connected on 13 of 18 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 16 LCA turnovers.  LCA shot 47.4% from the field including one of eight from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on one of four free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 12 Lafayette turnovers.

 

Mike Walker led Lafayette with 13 points.  Micah Miller added eight points.  Tyler Barber recorded six points and eight rebounds.

 

Grant Sparks led LCA with 10 points.  Branden Burdette added eight points.  Will Evans recorded seven points and 14 rebounds.

Wednesday February 25th

 

Paul L. Dunbar  (21-6)  vs.  Lexington Catholic  (15-13)  (Girls)

 

Paul Dunbar coach Michael Sowers started the following lineup: 5-4 Sr. Lauren Mitchell, 5-4 So. Christin Haney, 6-1 Jr. Ebony Rowe, 5-5 Sr. Ashley Lucas, and 5-5 Sr. Erin Lucas.  Lexington Catholic coach Tony Talbott countered with 5-9 Sr. Shaneque McGhee, 5-8 Sr. Danielle Corbett, 5-11 Jr. Madison Smith, 5-7 Jr. Anna Gayle Scott, and 5-8 Sr. Maggie Wilson.

 

Lexington Catholic held on down the stretch to defeat Dunbar 61-58 despite being dominated on the boards (51-23) and 23-7 on second chance points.  Dunbar attempted 25 more shots (66-41) from the field than Lexington Catholic.

 

Lexington Catholic shot 46.3% from the field including one of six from the three point line.  The Lady Knights connected on 22 of 33 free throws and scored 19 points off 19 Dunbar turnovers.  Dunbar shot 31.8% from the field including two of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Bulldogs connected on 14 of 21 free throws and scored 18 points off 16 Lexington Catholic turnovers.

 

5-9 8th grader Octavia Wilson led Lexington Catholic with 21 points including eight of 10 from the field and five of eight from the free throw line.  Maggie Wilson and Shaneque McGhee added 16 and 12 points respectively.

 

Ebony Rowe led Dunbar with 27 points and 21 rebounds.  6-2 So. Shomari Kendrick added 10 points and 17 rebounds.

Lexington Catholic outscored Tates Creek 11-6 over the last three minutes of the game in a 77-69 victory.  Lexington Catholic shot 59.6% from the field including seven of 16 from the three point line.  The Knights connected on eight of 15 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 18 Tates Creek turnovers.  Tates Creek shot 43.3% from the field including four of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Commodores connected on seven of 10 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 19 Lexington Catholic turnovers.

 

Vee Sanford led Lexington Catholic with 31 points including three three point baskets.  Taylor Martin added 14 points and six rebounds.  Tanner Peurach chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds.  Taylor Botkin also recorded nine points.

 

Ryan Fucci led Tates Creek with 18 points.  Marcellus Barksdale added 17 points and 13 rebounds.  6-4 Jr. Miles Potter and 5-11 So. Kendalle Mack chipped in with nine points each.

Rachel Cox, and 5-11 Sr. Courtney Clifton.  Lexington Catholic coach Tony Talbott countered with 5-9 Sr. Shaneque McGhee, 5-8 Sr. Danielle Corbett, 5-11 Jr. Madison Smith, 5-7 Jr. Anna Gayle Scott, and 5-8 Sr. Maggie Wilson.

 

Lexington Christian Academy defeated Lexington Catholic by a score of 74-64.  LCA shot 44.6% from the field including 10 of 29 from the three point line.  The Lady Eagles connected on 14 of 20 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 23 Lexington Catholic turnovers.  Lexington Catholic shot 37.5% from the field including seven of 18 from beyond the arc. The Lady Knights connected on 15 of 23 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 18 LCA turnovers.

 

Courtney Clifton led LCA with 26 points including five three point baskets.  Anna Martin added 22 points, six rebounds, and five steals.  Sarah Beth Barnette recorded 16 points, eight rebounds, and eight blocked shots.

 

Maggie Wilson led Lexington Catholic with 18 points including four three point baskets.  Danielle Corbett added 16 points including three three point baskets.  Shaneque McGhee recorded 15 points and 15 rebounds.  5-9 8th grader Octavia Wilson also reached double figures with 12 points.

Lexington Catholic defeated Lafayette by a score of 80-56.  Lexington Catholic shot 46.3% from the field including seven of 17 from the three point line.  The Knights connected on 11 of 18 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 16 Lafayette turnovers.  Lafayette shot 34.8% from the field including only one of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Generals connected on nine of 19 free throws, pulled down 45 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 12 Lexington Catholic turnovers.

 

Vee Sanford led Lexington Catholic with 29 points including three three point baskets and pulled down 11 rebounds.  6-0 Fr. Jaylen Beckham added 15 points.  Taylor Botkin chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds.

 

Mike Walker led Lafayette with 13 points.  Micah Miller added 11 points.  Tyler Barber recorded nine points and nine rebounds.
