2014 Traditional Bank Holiday Classic (Girls) Participating Teams

Allen County-Scottsville (Region 4)Coach Brad Bonds Lady Patriots finished 27-4 last season but suffered a key injury in February when Morgan Rich suffered an ACL injury.  A healthy 5-11 Sr. Morgan Rich would make the Lady Patriots the region favorite this season.  5-8 Jr. Savannah Gregory’s talent and high energy style of play allowed her to enjoy a banner season last year and gives Coach Bonds a potent 1-2 punch.  6-1 Sr. Holly Beth Robinson gives the team experience and talent in the paint.  5-7 Jr. Jordan Brooks can score from the perimeter and 5-10 8th Grader Sarah Sutton is a promising young player with excellent size.

 

Anderson County (Region 8) – The Lady Bearcats finished 28-5 last season and captured the region title.  However Makenzie Cann (Cincinnati) and Eriel McKee (Morehead State) graduated and Tony Kays stepped down as head coach.  Clay Birdwhistell takes over as head coach.  He has three players returning that logged major varsity minutes; 5-1 Sr. Corrin Robinson, 5-3 Sr. Marissa Walker, and 5-8 Jr. Kaci CurrensCurrens, who also stars on the softball field, recently set a school record with nine three point baskets. This team will shoot the ball, play defense, and depend on some of the younger players to provide size and rebounding.

 

Ashland Blazer (Region 16)Coach Bill Bradley’s Kittens finished 26-9 last season and will be a strong contender for the region title again this year.  There is an abundance of talent led by 5-11 Sr. Alexis Robinson, 5-11 Sr. Haley Sue Foutch, and 5-11 Sr. Shelby Gransberry.  Also, keep an eye on 5-7 Fr. Mykasa Robinson who could be a very special player before she graduates.

 

Betsy Layne (Region 15)Coach Randy Coleman’s team finished 10-20 last season but returns a lot of experience this season.  5-7 Sr. Brandy Morrow, 5-2 Sr. Chloe Johnson, 5-8 Sr. Eddie Akers, 5-8 Jr. Emily Kidd, 5-4 Jr. Katie Tackett, and 5-7 Fr. Megan Frazier will be expected to lead the team this season.

 

Breckinridge County (Region 3)Coach Jonathan Bennett’s Lady Tigers finished 14-13 last season.  5-5 So. Lily Grimes is a talented guard and a versatile scorer.  The Lady Tigers return experience including 5-5 Sr. Erin O’Reilly, 5-5 Sr. Emma Payne, 5-10 Jr. Mary Hinton, and 5-8 Sr. Johna Howdyshell.

 

Butler (Region 6)Coach Larry Just’s Bearettes finished 32-3 last season and captured the state championship.  Butler graduated 6th region player of the year Danielle Lawrence but return 9 of their top 10 players.  Key returnees include 5-10 So. Jaelynn Penn, 5-5 So. Breia Torrens, 5-11 Sr. Miah Casey, 5-9 Jr. Allison Just, 5-8 So. Janna Lewis, and 5-7 Sr. Madison Winebrenner.  While Danielle Lawrence will be missed Coach Just has a lot of talent available and should make another serious run for a regional championship and a defense of their state championship.

 

Caverna (Region 5)Coach Cornelius Faulkner’s Lady Colonels finished 15-15 last season and returns a potent 1-2 scoring punch in 5-8 Jr. Madison Faulkner and 5-6 Sr. Ciara Waggoner.  Other key returnees include 5-6 Jr. Shanda Bradley and 5-8 So. Kiara Kirk.

 

East Carter (Region 16)Coach Hager Easterling’s Lady Raiders finished 31-3 last season and returns a deep, talented squad capable of capturing the very competitive regional crown this year.  5-5 So. Kristen Mayo will again direct the offense.  Mayo, 5-11 Sr. Megan Stickler, and 5-8 So. Haley Hall will provide offensive firepower and 5-11 So. Bailee Brainard, 6-1 Sr. Kelsey Stumbo, and 5-9 Sr. Kaylee Limings should provide an inside presence.

 

Elizabethtown (Region 5)Coach Tim Mudd’s Lady Panthers finished 32-5 last season and was state runners-up.  They return all five starters and will enter the season ranked number one in the state.  6-2 Jr. Erin Boley averaged 20 ppg last season and has committed to Notre Dame.  6-2 Sr. Reauna Cleaver is a force in the paint.  5-9 Sr. Darien Huff, 5-9 Sr. Livie Bowling, and 5-7 Jr. Rachel Warden are also key returnees.  5-5 So. Jada Stinson and 5-9 So. Taylor Thomas are talented reserves.  Talent, depth, and experience make them a tough assignment on any night.

 

George Rogers Clark (Region 10)Coach Robbie Graham’s Lady Cardinals finished 27-8 last season and captured the regional title.  Coach Graham returns enough talent to capture the championship again this season.  6-1 Sr. Sandra Skinner is a versatile scorer and rebounder.  Other key players include 5-8 Sr. Paige Taylor and 5-10 Jr. Sydney Anderson.  6-3 So. Elizabeth Hardiman provides additional strength inside and other key returnees include 5-4 Jr. Lauren Welsh and 5-4 Sr. Kaytlynn Williams.

 

Grayson County (Region 3)The Lady Cougars finished 16-15 last season and Daniel Pharris takes over as head coach this season.  Grayson County returns an experienced nucleus capable of contending for the regional championship.  5-9 Sr. Madison Stewart averaged 17 ppg last season.  5-10 So. Grace White is also a capable scorer and rebounder.  5-4 Sr. Sloane Embry, 5-11 Sr. Montana Woosley, and 5-5 So. Allie Horton are expected to log quality minutes.

 

Holy Cross (Covington) (Region 9)Coach Kes Murphy’s Indians finished 21-8 last season and appears to have everything necessary to capture the regional championship.  5-9 Sr. Deja Turner is eligible this season after setting out last year after transferring from Holmes and should lead the team.  6-2 Sr. Ally Mayhaus and 6-2 Sr. Cessie Mayhaus provide a presence in the paint and 5-9 Sr. Abby Hassert returns after suffering an injury last season.  5-7 Jr. PG Dajah McClendon is back to direct the offense.  The Indians have the size and guard play to make a serious run this season.

 

Jeffersontown (Region 6) – The Lady Chargers finished 9-17 last season and William Stevenson takes over as head coach this season.  Jeffersontown is very young with only two seniors on the roster.  5-6 Fr. Keyona Dyson and 5-10 8th Grader Kiara Pearl are two of the talented young players on the roster.

 

Lewis County (Region 16)Coach Jay Fite’s Lady Lions finished 20-11 last season.  Coach Fite has an excellent Sr. inside-outside duo in 6-2 Sr. Savannah Anderson and 5-6 Sr. Emily Frye.  Other key players include 5-6 Sr. McKenzie Thompson, 5-3 Jr. Jaycey Fite, and 5-8 Fr. Abby Pick.

 

Lexington Catholic (Region 11)Coach Scott True’s Lady Knights finished 17-12 last year and returns an experienced squad.  5-8 Sr. Rachel Blake is a versatile scorer who can take the ball to the rim or score on a jump shot from the perimeter.  5-5 Sr. Bailey Browning is a point guard who handles the ball well, finds the open player, and can score when needed.  5-9 Sr. Caroline Lynch is a good rebounder who can step out and hit the jump shot.  5-6 Sr. Tori Pippen, 5-9 Jr. Sarah Bonn, and 5-8 Jr. Caroline Osbourn are also expected to be key contributors.

 

Lincoln County (Region 12)Coach Cassandra McWhorter’s Lady Patriots finished 17-13 last season and returns everyone.  5-9 Sr. Tiandra Hocker, 5-4 Sr. Kelsi Honaker, and 5-5 Jr. Caitlin Hall are key returnees.  5-6 Jr. Cristin Hall is recovering from an ACL injury and will be a major asset when healthy.  5-9 8th Grader Emma King, 5-7 Sr. Caitlin Adams, and 6-2 Jr. Cami Holton (transfer from Boyle County) will also log quality playing time.

 

Mercy Academy (Region 6)Coach Keith Baisch’s Jaguars finished 17-14 last season and return all their key players.  The Jaguars could have an excellent season if they can avoid the injury bug that plagued them last season.  6-0 Sr. Malerie Martin is a talented inside player who has range on her shot.  5-7 Sr. Hannah Bewley is a capable scorer and 6-0 So. Elizabeth Anderson is a young talent with a promising future.  5-8 Jr. Erin Muthler, 5-9 Sr. Kathryn Gross, 5-4 Jr. Jessica Laemmle, and 5-6 Jr. Madi Woods are also key returnees.

 

Nelson County (Region 5)Coach Kelly Wood’s Lady Cardinals finished 24-8 last season and returns a team that can shoot and is quick but lacks in size.  5-5 So. Shyla Calbert gets to the rim and 5-6 Sr. Caitlin Hagan is a good perimeter shooter.  Other players expected to contribute include 5-10 Jr. Brooklyn Greer, 5-8 So. Kira Harman, 5-5 Jr. Taylor Young, 5-7 So. LeLe Linton, and 5-7 Sr. Madison Higgs.

 

Newport Central Catholic (Region 9)Coach George Stoll’s Thoroughbreds finished 29-5 but lost a lot of their scoring from last year.  5-3 Sr. Michaela Ware is a solid point guard who can score.  5-8 Jr. Ansley Davenport is another capable scorer.  Other key players include 5-9 Sr. Sarah Neace, 5-5 Fr. Lexy Breen, and 5-3 Sr. Loren Zimmerman.

 

Sacred Heart Academy (Region 7)Coach Donna Moir’s Valkyries finished 27-8 last season but graduated their top scorers Dai’Jai Ruffin and Raven Merriweather.  5-4 Sr. Gretchen Samsel, 5-4 Sr. Ashley Johnson, and 5-10 Jr. Lydia Taylor are key returnees.  5-10 Fr. Grace Berger and 5-7 Fr. Kia Sivils lead a talented freshman class.  While Sacred Heart graduated a lot of talent and scoring firepower this is a veteran coaching staff that will steadily improve this team throughout the season.

 

Scott (Region 10)Coach Rhonda Klette’s Lady Eagles finished 19-13 last season but lost Ally Niece who transferred to Simon Kenton.  5-7 Fr. Lexi Stapleton, 5-8 Jr. Holly Kallmeyer, and 5-7 Sr. Jenna Trimpe should provide scoring and 5-9 Jr. Tori Dant and 5-10 Fr. Anna Clephane are also expected to be key contributors.

 

South Laurel (Region 13)Konnie Snyder’s squad finished 8-20 last season but returns four starters and should be improved this season.  Key returnees include 6-0 So. Katie Reynolds. 5-10 Sr. Morgan Madden, 5-7 Sr. Brittany Vanderventer, and 5-5 Sr. Preslie Baker.  Other key players include 5-7 So. Shelby Davis, 5-8 Fr. Taylor Cromer, and 5-8 8th Grader Mariah Anders.

 

South Warren (Region 4)Coach Blane Embry’s Lady Spartans finished 23-9 last season.  5-9 Sr. Colby Downing is a veteran capable of putting up large numbers.  5-8 Fr. Amaya Lasley provides scoring punch from the backcourt.  5-11 Jr. Timitryi Patterson provides inside scoring and is an excellent rebounder.  6-0 So. Caroline Cowles is a young talent that adds size and depth inside.

 

Warren Central (Region 4)Coach Joe Hood’s Lady Dragons finished 14-11 last season.  5-8 Jr. Tia Barnett is an excellent scorer with range on her jump shot.  5-11 Fr. Zakoria Hill is returning from a season-ending injury and is an excellent scorer and rebounder.  Other key contributors are expected to be 5-11 Sr. LaShae Halsel, 5-7 Sr. TiAvion Patterson, and 5-9 Jr. Rana Cousin.
