Girls – 3-Point Shootout The Ohio champion was Julia Jenike (Bethel-Tate OH) while Sydney Anderson (Clark County KY) was the Kentucky champion.  Julia Jenike captured the overall championship by a 16-14 score.  1-on-1 Competition Nia Staples (Lakota West OH) defeated Samantha Rogers (Lakota East OH) for the Ohio Championship while Whitney Creech (Jenkins KY) defeated Breanna Glover (Glasgow) for the Kentucky Championship.  Nia Staples captured the overall title with a victory over Bailey Cummins (Bracken County) by a score of 7-6.  3-on-3 Championship Lexi Wassan (Lakota West OH), Danielle Wells (Lakota West), and Kourtney Eisenman (Upper Arlington OH) captured the overall championship with a victory over Bailey Cummins (Bracken County KY) Tamiah Sanford (North Hardin KY), and Sarah Price (Bath County KY) by a score of 11-8.

 

Boys – 3-Point Shootout Roderick Caldwell (Wayne OH) captured the Ohio championship while Ben Weyer (Newport Central Catholic KY) captured the Kentucky championship.  Ben Weyer was crowned the overall champion,  1-on-1 Competition Jalen Tate (Pickerington Central OH) captured the Ohio championship with a 5-0 decision over Xavier Simpson (Lima Senior OH).  Mason Faulkner (Caverna KY) captured the Kentucky championship with a 7-4 decision over Quentin Goodin (Taylor County KY).  Mason Faulkner (Caverna KY) captured the overall championship with an 8-4 decision over Jalen Tate (Pickerington Central (OH).  3-on-3 Championship Mason Faulkner (Caverna KY), Ben Weyer (Newport Central Catholic KY), and Quentin Goodin (Taylor County KY) took the overall championship over Trey Landers (Wayne OH), Bryan Rolfe (Lucasville Valley OH), and Nick Ward (Ghanna OH).  Slam Dunk Competition – Quentin Goodin (Taylor County KY) took the championship.

Ohio coach Rob Matula started the following lineup: 5-11 Samantha Rogers, 5-10 Lexi Wasan, 6-3 Kourtney Eisenman, 5-8 Jailyn Mason, and 5-8 Rylie Parkhurst.  Kentucky coach Tony Perkins countered with 6-0 Sarah Price, 5-11 Breanna Glover, 6-2 I’Liyah Green, 5-6 Katie Downey, and 5-9 Whitney Creech. (Tony Perkins was a late replacement for the Kentucky team as head coach as Joey Thacker had to leave because of a family emergency).

 

Kentucky led 50-40 at halftime but Ohio rallied to earn a 76-71 victory.  Samantha Rogers hit a three point basket with less than three minutes on the clock to put the Ohio team ahead 72-69.  Samantha Rogers was named Game MVP for Ohio and scored 12 points.  Nia Staples also scored 12 points and Lauren Van Kleunen added 10 points.  Breanna Glover was named Game MVP for Kentucky and led her team with 14 points.  Katie Downey and Kayla Bruner added nine and eight points respectively.

Ohio coach Mike Noszka started the following lineup: 6-5 Jalen Tate, 6-4 Ibi Watson, 6-8 Nick Ward, 5-10 Roderick Caldwell, and 6-1 Gage Rhodes.  Kentucky coach Richard Gatewood countered with 6-6 Alex Cook, 6-6 Ben Weyer, 6-7 Carson Williams, 6-2 Jaiveon Eaves, and 6-4 Quentin Goodin.

 

Kentucky raced out to a 13-0 lead but Ohio rallied to earn a 94-92 victory.  The score was tied 46-46 at halftime and Ohio went on a 16-0 run to take an 82-70 lead with approximately five minutes to go in the game.  Kentucky pulled to within one; 93-92 with 8.7 seconds left in the game on three free throws by Ben Weyer.  Ohio’s Jarron Cumberland hit one of two free throws and Kentucky’s Mason Faulkner missed a three point attempt at the buzzer.

 

Jarron Cumberland was named MVP for the Ohio squad and scored 15 points.  Nick Ward, Trey Landers, and Xavier Simpson added 14, 13, and 12 points respectively.  Carson Williams was named MVP for the Kentucky team and scored 18 points.  Mason Faulkner, Ben Weyer, and Quentin Goodin added 13, 10, and 10 points respectively.
