Sayre vs. Scott County (Girls)

                                  

Sayre coach Charles Thomas started the following lineup: 6-0 Jr. Lainey Tew, 5-5 Sr. Mia Pulliam, 6-1 So. Kaya Davis, 5-4 Sr. Ellie Alford, and 5-5 Jr. Dee Dee Wheeler.  Scott County coach Steve Helton countered with 5-10 So. Maaliya Owens, 5-8 Sr. Kadee Hudson, 5-11 Sr. Lauren Boehm, 5-5 Fr. Morgan DeFoor, and 5-10 Jr. Peyton Riddle.

 

Scott County pulled away in the second half to defeat Sayre by a score of 86-53.  Scott County shot 47.6% from the field including four of 21 from the three point line.  The Lady Cardinals connected on four of 11 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 41 points off 40 Sayre turnovers.  Sayre shot 39.5% from the field including three of 10 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Spartans connected on 16 of 25 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 15 Scott County turnovers.

 

Peyton Riddle led Scott County with 30 points including three three point baskets and six steals.  Maaliya Owens added 12 points.  Morgan DeFoor recorded 11 points, seven rebounds, 10 assists, and five steals. 

 

Dee Dee Wheeler led Sayre with 14 points, four rebounds, and five assists.  Kaya Davis added 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Ellie Alford recorded 13 points, four rebounds, and two steals.

Bryan Station coach Tommy Johnson started the following lineup: 6-4 Fr. Nathan Mack, 6-3 Sr. David Demarcus, 6-7 Sr. Braeden Warren, 5-10 Jr. Eric “Boss” Boone, and 6-0 Sr. Stephen Groves.  Scott County coach Billy Hicks countered with 6-6 So. Michael Moreno, 6-2 Jr. Cooper Robb, 6-4 Sr. Cooper Watts, 6-0 So. Lorenzo Williams, and 6-1 So. Bryce Long.

 

Scott County led 27-26 at halftime and pulled away in the second half to defeat Bryan Station by a score of 78-54.  There were five ties and 12 lead changes in this game.  Scott County shot 50.8% from the field including five of 17 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on nine of 12 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 21 Bryan Station turnovers.  Bryan Station shot 46.8% from the field including two of 10 from beyond the arc.  The Defenders connected on eight of 12 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored eight points off 12 Scott County turnovers.

 

Michael Moreno led Scott County with 26 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots, and two steals.  Bryce Long added 19 points including three three point baskets and five rebounds.  Cooper Robb chipped in with 12 points.

 

Eric “Boss” Boone led Bryan Station with 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  David Demarcus added 11 points and 6-1 Jr. Terrance Clayton-Murphy chipped in with 10 points.

Bryan Station vs. Henry Clay (Girls)

Bryan Station coach Shawn Ransom started the following lineup: 5-6 So. Kelynn Clay, 5-5 Sr. Carah Burdette, 5-7 Sr. Emoni Washington, 5-4 Jr. Kyrah Hardin, and 5-5 Sr. Jlyn Martin.  Henry Clay coach Eric Sanford countered with 5-8 Jr. Braxton Price, 5-8 So. Destyne Jackson, 5-11 Jr. Tyronica Carpenter, 5-7 So. Kiya Thompson, and 5-8 Sr. Lexi Long.

 

Henry Clay defeated Bryan Station by a score of 50-45.  Henry Clay raced out to a 20-9 first quarter lead and withstood a Bryan Station rally to earn the victory.  Henry Clay shot 36.7% from the field including five of 15 from the three point line.  The Lady Blue Devils connected on nine of 20 free throws, pulled down 41 rebounds, and scored two points off 11 Bryan Station turnovers.  Bryan Station shot 27.3% from the field including three of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Defenders connected on 12 of 23 free throws, pulled down 41 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 13 Henry Clay turnovers.

 

Kiya Thompson led Henry Clay with 14 points including two three point baskets and three assists.  Destyne Jackson also scored 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists.  Lexi Long recorded 13 points including two three point baskets, six rebounds, and two blocked shots.  5-4 So. Christian Gatewood pulled down 10 rebounds.

 

Carah Burdette led Bryan Station with 19 points including two three point baskets and six rebounds.  Jlyn Martin added 13 points and six rebounds.  5-10 Jr. Gracie Baczkowski pulled down 10 rebounds.  Kelynn Clay recorded six points, five rebounds, and three steals.

Sayre defeated Henry Clay by a score of 68-61.  The score was tied twice and there were 11 lead changes in the game.  Sayre shot 50% from the field including five of 10 from the three point line.  The Spartans connected on 21 of 27 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 14 Henry Clay turnovers.  Henry Clay shot 38.2% from the field including five of 23 from beyond the arc.  Henry Clay attempted 26 more shots (68-42) from the field than Sayre.  The Blue Devils connected on four of 11 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 19 Sayre turnovers.

 

Luke Duby led Sayre with 37 points including three three point baskets, eight of eight free throws, nine rebounds, and two blocked shots.  RJ Smith added 17 points including eight of eight free throws and 11 rebounds.

 

Andreus Green led Henry Clay with 25 points and 17 rebounds.  Justin Mitchell added 15 points including two three point baskets, nine rebounds, and three assists.

Henry Clay vs. Scott County (Girls) (Championship)

 

Henry Clay coach Eric Sanford started the following lineup: 5-8 Jr. Braxton Price, 5-8 So. Destyne Jackson, 5-11 Jr. Tyronnica Carpenter, 5-7 So. Kiya Thompson, and 5-8 Sr. Lexi Long.  Scott county coach Steve Helton countered with 5-10 So. Maaliya Owens, 5-8 Sr. Kadee Hudson, 5-11 Sr. Lauren Boehm, 5-5 Fr. Morgan DeFoor, and 5-10 Jr. Peyron Riddle.

 

Scott County raced out to a 22-7 first quarter lead on their way to an 80-52 victory over Henry Clay to earn their first district title since 2011.  Scott County shot 52.3% from the field including eight of 18 from the three point line.  The Lady Cardinals connected on four of 11 free throws, pulled down 52 rebounds, and scored four points off 10 Henry Clay turnovers.  Scott County held a 16-0 advantage on second effort points.  Henry Clay shot 27.6% from the field including six of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Blue Devils connected on 14 of 23 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 15 Scott County turnovers.

 

Peyton Riddle led Scott County with 22 points including four three point baskets, nine rebounds, seven assists, and two blocked shots.  Maaliya Owens added 15 points and five rebounds.  Morgan DeFoor also scored 15 points including three three point baskets and seven assists.  Kadee Hudson chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds.  5-9 Jr. Zakiya Holt pulled down 11 rebounds.

 

Kiya Thompson led Henry Clay with 13 points including two three point baskets.  Destyne Jackson added 10 points including two three point baskets.  Braxton Price also scored 10 points and dished out four assists.  Lexi Long chipped in with nine points.

Scott County pulled away in the second half to defeat Sayre by a score of 78-44.  Scott County shot 46.5% from the field including three of 18 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on nine of 20 free throws, pulled down 47 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 23 Sayre turnovers.  Sayre shot 40% from the field including two of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Spartans attempted 31 less shots (71-40) from the field than Scott County.  Sayre connected on 10 of 22 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored six points off eight Scott County turnovers.

 

Michael Moreno led a balanced Scott County scoring attack with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists.  Lorenzo Williams added 16 points and five rebounds.  Cooper Robb recorded 13 points and 6-2 Sr. Dakoda Allen chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.  Cooper Watts added seven points and nine rebounds.

 

RJ Smith led Sayre with 12 points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Jake Duby added 11 points and two blocked shots.  Robbie Goodman chipped in with seven points.
