Monday January 9th

 

Central vs. Jeffersontown

 

Coach Doug Bibby’s Central Yellow Jackets utilized their pressure defense to keep Jeffersontown from utilizing their half court offense to take full advantage of their talented big man 6-6 Sr. Delvonte McCloud.  Central forced Jeffersontown into 28 turnovers and held the Chargers to 39.1% shooting from the field in a 64-48 victory.  Central shot 40.4% from the field including nine of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Yellow Jackets connected on nine of 15 free throws and pulled down 31 rebounds.

 

5-10 Sr. Devin Firman led Central with 24 points and eight rebounds.  6-1 Sr. Derron Douglas added 15 points and 5-11 Sr. Dominique Knight chipped in with seven points and eight rebounds.

 

6-6 Sr. Delvonte McCloud led Jeffersontown with 15 points, 17 rebounds, and four blocked shots.  6-0 So. Justin Baker added 12 points and 5-11 8th Grade Jaden Rogers chipped in with nine points.

Christian Academy of Louisville vs. DuPont Manual

 

Christian Academy went on a 23-0 run in the first half to gain control of the game on their way to an 80-60 victory over DuPont Manual.  Cal shot 57.9% from the field including eight of 19 free throws.  The Centurions connected on 18 of 22 free throws, and pulled down 34 rebounds. 

 

6-5 Sr. Parker Jones led CAL with 35 points and 11 rebounds.  6-1 Jr. Wyatt Allison and 6-1 Sr. Michael Woodward added 15 and 10 points respectively.  6-5 Sr. Kenneth Purvis recorded nine points and three blocked shots.

 

6-2 Jr. Jordan McClendon led Manual with 15 points and six rebounds.  6-4 Sr. Brock Casin and 6-2 Sr. Terrance Ballard each scored seven points.

St. Xavier vs. Moore

 

St. Xavier trailed 34-25 in the third quarter before the Tigers rallied to defeat Moore by a score of 62-50.  St. Xavier was plagued by foul woes in the first half but was able to rally in the second half to earn the victory.  St. Xavier shot 46.2% from the field including five of 15 from the three point line.  The Tigers connected on 21 of 27 free throws and pulled down 21 rebounds.  Moore shot 43.2% from the field including eight of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Mustangs connected on four of six free throws and pulled down 24 rebounds.

 

6-2 So. Sam Boarman led St. Xavier with 17 points including four three point baskets.  6-7 Jr. Pierce Kiesler added 15 points and 5-11 Fr. James Taylor recorded 13 points and 10 assists.

 

5-10 Jr. Antwan Hurt led Moore with 10 points.  5-9 Jr. Malik Anderson added nine points.  6-1 Sr. Shamar Ovestreet and 6-4 Sr. Ramon Collins each scored eight points.  6-6 So. JJ Weaver recorded seven points and seven rebounds.

Fairdale vs. Western

 

Fairdale held on to defeat Western by a score of 69-62.  Fairdale held a comfortable 56-44 lead in the final quarter but Western rallied to pull with three points; 63-60 late in the game.  Fairdale’s Glenn Queen recorded a steal and basket to give the Bulldogs a little breathing room.  Fairdale shot 47.8% from the field including seven of 15 from the three point line.  The Bulldogs connected on 18 of 27 free throws and pulled down 31 rebounds.  Western shot 39.3% from the field, connected on 12 of 17 free throws, and pulled down 27 rebounds.

 

5-10 Jr. Glenn Queen led Fairdale with 24 points and eight rebounds.  6-4 Sr. Isaiah Roby added 11 points and nine rebounds.  6-1 Jr. Craig Ash scored 11 points. 5-9 So. Jaxon Gaddie chipped in with 10 points and 6-0 Jr. Markelo Sullivan recorded nine points and seven rebounds.

 

6-3 Sr. O’Neal Swint led Western with 22 points.  5-10 Sr. Cameron Dajour added 14 points and six rebounds.

Tuesday January 10th

 

Waggener vs. Male

 

Waggener finally pulled away for good midway through the final quarter on their way to a 63-58 victory over Male.  Waggener shot 43.8% from the field including five of 13 from the three point line.  The Wildcats connected on 16 of 21 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 19 Male turnovers.  Male shot 46.2% from the field including two of nine from beyond the arc.  The Bulldogs connected on 20 of 32 free throws and pulled down 25 rebounds.

 

6-4 So. Jaago Kalakon led Waggener with 29 points and five rebounds.  6-2 Sr. Jacquess Hobbs added 15 points and four rebounds. 

 

6-4 Sr. Hogan Brownley led Male with 20 points and 13 rebounds.  5-10 Sr. Nathan Hobbs added 12 points and 6-0 So. Hunter McCutcheon chipped in with 10 points.

Eastern 53  Butler 47

 

Eastern led 40-29 after three quarters but had to withstand a Butler rally to earn a 53-47 victory.  Eastern shot 52.9% from the field including four of nine from the three point line.  The Eagles connected on 13 of 17 free throws and pulled down 24 rebounds.

 

6-0 Sr. Javin Rushin led Eastern with 17 points.  5-9 Sr. Sugar Ray Wyche added 12 points and 6-4 Sr. Caleb Williams recorded nine points, nine rebounds, and four blocked shots.

 

5-9 Sr. Marcus Montgomery led Butler with 13 points.  5-7 So. Maurice Tolley added seven points.

Valley vs. DeSales

 

Valley started out ice cold from the field trailing DeSales 5-2 after the first quarter but rallied to defeat an equally poor shooting DeSales squad by a score of 59-45.  Valley got it together in the second quarter and outscored DeSales 24-8 to lead 26-13 at halftime.

 

6-4 Sr. Curt Lewis led Valley with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.  5-10 So. Xavier Johnson added 12 points and 6-3 Sr. Raekwon Evans recorded 11 points and six rebounds.  6-4 Sr. Eric George pulled down nine rebounds.

 

6-1 Sr. Jaxon Burgess led DeSales with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and three steals.  6-3 Jr. Samuel Weining added 10 points.  6-7 Jr. Travis Seibert pulled down 11 rebounds.

Bullitt East vs. Pleasure Ridge Park

 

Bullitt East shot a sizzling 78.9% from the field in the first half to take a 44-22 halftime lead on their way to a 68-48 victory over Pleasure Ridge Park.    Bullitt East shot 63.2% from the field including nine of 17 from the three point line.  The Chargers connected on 11 of 16 free throws and pulled down 24 rebounds.

 

6-2 Sr. Connor Green led Bullitt east with 24 points.  5-9 Jr. Luke Ezell added 23 points and six  assists. 

 

6-4 Jr. BJ Robinson led Pleasure Ridge Park with 18 points and nine rebounds.  6-1 Jr. Gerald Gray and 6-4 Jr. Trey Hill each scored eight points.

 

Bullitt East (68) – Ezell 23, Wisehart 2, Green 24, Osborne 2, Polson 7, Perdew 2, Skaggs 3, Donigan 5.

Wednesday January 11th

 

Central vs. Doss

 

Central utilized zone defenses to force Doss to shoot from outside and the strategy worked as the Yellow Jackets defeated Doss by a score of 59-53.  Doss only connected on four of 24 shots beyond the arc.  Central finally took the lead for good 41-39 early in the final quarter   Central shot 45.9% from the field including three of 10 from beyond the arc.  The Yellow Jackets connected on 22 of 32 free throws and pulled down 32 rebounds.

 

5-10 Sr. Devin Firman led Central with 27 points.  5-11 Sr. Dominique Knight added 11 points and nine rebounds.  6-1 Sr. Derron Douglas recorded eight points and six rebounds.

 

6-2 Jr. Stephon Franklin led Doss with 19 points.  6-6 Sr. Jaylon Hall added 11 points and seven rebounds.  6-3 Sr. Cam Maddox also scored 11 points.  6-4 Jr. Terez Traynor chipped in with six points and 12 rebounds.

Fern Creek vs. Fairdale

 

Fern Creek took control of the game in the third quarter and defeated Fairdale by a score of 75-57.  Fern Creek shot 51.8% from the field.  Fairdale shot 47.8% from the field including seven of 15 from the three point line.  The Bulldogs connected on 18 of 27 free throws and pulled down 31 rebounds.

 

6-5 Sr. Chance Moore led Fern Creek with 30 points.  5-8 Jr. Anthony Wales added 20 points.  6-4 Jr. Tony Rogers recorded seven points and seven rebounds.

 

5-10 Jr. Glenn Queen led Fairdale with 24 points and four assists.  5-9 So. Jaxon Gaddie added 10 points and 6-0 Jr. Markelo Sullivan chipped in with four points and seven rebounds.

Ballard vs. Christian Academy of Louisville

 

Ballard defeated Christian Academy of Louisville by a score of 69-61.  Ballard shot 47.8% from the field including five of 14 from the three point line.  The Bruins connected on 20 of 32 free throws and pulled down 38 rebounds.  CAL shot 41.9% from the field including five of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Centurions connected on 20 of 30 free throws and pulled down 26 rebounds.

 

6-2 Jr. Dorian Tisby led Ballard with 12 points and three blocked shots.  5-10 Jr. Tyron Duncan added 11 points.  5-9 Sr. Jamil Wilson chipped in with nine points.  6-3 Jr. Delonta Wimberly recorded seven points and eight rebounds.  6-4 Sr. Clivonte Patterson added seven points and four rebounds but suffered a sprained ankle and did not return in the second half.

 

6-5 Sr. Parker Jones led CAL with 26 points, eight rebounds, six steals, and four assists.  6-1 Jr. Wyatt Allison added 11 points.

Trinity vs. St. Xavier

 

Trinity defeated St. Xavier by a school of 72-57.  Trinity shot 56.5% from the field including six of 15 from the three point line.  The Shamrocks connected on 14 of 18 free throws and pulled down 27 rebounds.  St. Xavier shot 50% from the field, pulled down 18 rebounds, and committed 15 turnovers.

 

6-4 Jr. Jay Scrubb led Trinity with 15 points and six rebounds.  5-11 Sr. Jacob King added 12 points and 6-2 Sr. David Burton chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds.  6-0 Sr. Lukas Burkman added 11 points.

 

6-7 Jr. Pierce Kiesler led St. Xavier with 27 points.  5-11 Fr. James Taylor added 10 points and eight assists.  6-2 So. Sam Boarman recorded eight points and six rebounds.

Fern Creek vs. Eastern (Quarterfinal)

 

Fern Creek took advantage of early Eastern turnovers to take a 19-4 lead on their way to a 58-44 victory.  Eastern closed the margin to 36-32 in the third quarter but could not overcome Fern Creek.  6-4 Jr. Clint Wickliffe led Fern Creek with 20 points.  6-5 Sr. Chance Moore added 17 points.  5-8 Jr. Anthony Wales chipped in with seven points and six rebounds.

 

6-4 Sr. Caleb Williams led Eastern with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  5-9 Sr. Sugar Ray Wyche added 12 points.  6-0 Sr. Javin Rushin chipped in with eight points.

 

Fern Creek (58) – Thomas 3, A. Wales 7, Price 7, Wickliffe 20, Hawkins 2, Moore 17, Gordon 2.

 

Eastern (44) – Wyche 12, Ross 3, Johnson 1, Goodrich 2, Garmon 2, Williams 16, Rushin 8.

 

 

Ballard vs. Bullitt East (Quarterfinal)

 

Ballard led 32-14 in the second quarter but Bullitt East went on a 20-2 run to tie the score at 34-34.  Bullitt East stayed close until Ballard hit their free throws late to give the Bruins a 72-61 victory over Bullitt East.  This was a big win for Ballard as they were missing their top scorer and rebounder 6-4 Sr. Clivonte Patterson who is out with a sprained ankle.

 

5-9 Sr. Jamil Wilson led Ballard with 16 points.  5-10 Jr. Tyron Duncan added 11 points.  6-3 Jr. Delonta Wimberly recorded nine points and nine rebounds.  6-2 Jr. Marshon Ford also scored nine points.  6-2 Jr. Dorian Tisby added seven points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots.

 

6-2 Sr. Connor Green led Bullitt East with 22 points.  5-9 Jr. Luke Ezell added 17 points, four assists, and three steals.

Trinity vs. Waggener (Quarterfinal)

 

Waggener raced out to a 23-10 lead before Trinity rallied to lead 28-27 on their way to a 68-53 victory.  Trinity shot 53.7% from the field including four of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Shamrocks connected on six of nine free throws and pulled down 42 rebounds.  Waggener shot 39.2% from the field including three of 14 from beyond the arc.  They connected on 10 of 18 free throws and pulled down 25 rebounds.

 

5-11 Sr. Jacob King led Trinity with 18 points.  6-2 Sr. LJ Harris added 16 points and seven rebounds.  6-0 Sr. Lukas Burkman chipped in with 11 points.  6-4 So. David Johnson recorded nine points and eight rebounds.

 

6-2 Sr. Jacquess Hobbs led Waggener with 25 points.  6-4 So. Jaago Kalakon added 13 points and six rebounds.

Valley vs. Central (Quarterfinal)

 

5-11 Sr. Cameron Wilson connected on four free throws in the closing minute of overtime to give Valley a 65-61 victory over Central.  6-4 Sr. Eric George tied the game at 55-55 with 27 seconds in regulation to allow Valley to get into overtime. 

 

6-4 Jr. Curt Lewis led Valley with 28 points.  6-4 Sr. Eric George added 17 points and 10 rebounds.  6-3 Sr. Raekwon Evans recorded seven points and 11 rebounds.

 

5-10 Sr. Devin Firman led Central with 25 points, six rebounds, and four steals.  5-11 Sr. Dominique Knight added 19 points and six rebounds.  6-1 Sr. Derron Douglas pulled down eight rebounds.

Saturday January 14th

 

 

Fern Creek vs. Ballard (Semifinal)

 

Ballard’s Coach Chris Renner chose to run with Fern Creek in the King of the Bluegrass Tournament and lost by a score of 87-82 with a full roster.  He entered tonight’s game with leading scorer and rebounder 6-4 Sr. Clivonte Patterson out with an ankle sprain and 5-9 Sr. Jamil Wilson still recovering from a similar injury.  Ballard took an early lead due to some early Fern Creek turnovers but Fern Creek rallied to lead 30-24 at halftime.  Ballard chose to slow down the game in the second half but Fern Creek was up to the challenge and earned a 46-31 victory.

 

6-5 Sr. Chance Moore led Fern Creek with 13 points and four assists.  6-4 Jr. Clint Wickliffe added 12 points and seven rebounds. 

 

5-10 Jr. Tyron Duncan led Ballard with 11 points.  6-3 Jr. Delonta Wimberly and 5-9 Sr. Jamil Wilson added six and five points respectively.

 

Fern Creek (46) – Howard 3, Thomas 3, A. Wales 8, Price 3, Wickliffe 12, Moore 13, Rogers 2, Owes 2.

 

Ballard (31) – Tyrese Duncan 1, Ford 2, Tyron Duncan 11, Tisby 4, Darby 2, Wimberly 6, Wilson 5.

 

 

Trinity vs. Valley (Semifinal)

 

Valley led 20-14 in the first half but Trinity finished the half on an 8-0 run to take a 22-20 lead at the intermission.  Valley only trailed 46-45 midway through the final quarter but Trinity pulled away late to earn a 55-46 victory.

 

6-4 Jr. Jay Scrubb led Trinity with 24 points.  5-11 Sr. Jacob King added nine points.  6-5 Fr. Justin Powell recorded seven points and six rebounds and 6-4 So. David Johnson also scored seven points.

 

6-4 Jr. Curt Lewis led Valley with 16 points.  6-4 Sr. Eric George added 15 points.

 

Trinity (55) – J. King 9, Burton 2, Johnson 7, Harris 4, Powell 7, Scrubb 24, Burkman 2.

 

Valley (46) – Williams 4, Evans 4, Lewis 16, George 15, Anderson 7.

 

Fern Creek vs. Trinity (Championship)

 

Fern Creek defeated Trinity 65-58 in overtime to capture the championship.  Trinity led 50-43 midway through the final quarter but a determined Fern Creek squad kept chipping away and 6-0 Jr. AJ Thomas who had replaced 6-2 Jr. Ahmad Price who had fouled out hit a layup with one second left in regulation to tie the game at 55-55 and force overtime.  The overtime period was all Fern Creek as Trinity was only one of nine from the field and Fern creek hit their free throws down the stretch to ensure the victory.

 

5-8 Jr. Anthony Wales led Fern Creek with 16 points and four steals.  6-0 Jr. AJ Thomas added 10 points and two steals.  6-4 Jr. Tony Rogers recorded 11 points.  6-4 Jr. Clint Wickliffe chipped in with nine points and five rebounds and 6-5 Sr. Chance Moore also scored nine points.  6-2 Jr. Ahmad Price added eight points.

 

6-4 So. David Johnson led Trinity with 16 points.  6-4 Jr. Jay Scrubb added 12 points.  6-0 Sr. Lukas Burkman and 5-11 Sr. Jacob King added nine and eight points respectively.  6-2 Sr. LJ Harris recorded six points and six rebounds.
