A special thanks to the excellent staff at the KBC for putting on this event and providing up-to-date results.  Some excellent insights and observations by the staff of Prephoops and NextUp Recruits.  The stats came from the KBC score sheets and I apologize for any errors as I attempted to hurriedly record the numbers and decipher the players’ numbers and names.

There was a lot of could-have-been and should-have-been in this event but when it was over Bourbon County led by Coach Lamont Campbell stood tall with the crown.  Louisville Male looked unbeatable but did not return Sunday and forfeited the quarterfinals.  Lexington Catholic was without the services of Ben Johnson (ankle sprain) against Bourbon County and Henry Clay was without Marques Warrick for several minutes due to cramping in the championship game.  However, make no mistake Bourbon County is for real and went through the weekend undefeated and earned their title.

I will mention a few players that impressed me but for a more comprehensive list catch up with the coverage from Prephoops (I noticed Coach Q was in the house) and NextUp Recruits.

Bourbon County – 6-2 PG (2020) Amirion Joyce gets to the rim and will and draws fouls in traffic.  6-5 Forward (2020) Mukonkole Lukonga rebounds and scores in the paint.  Henry Clay – 6-3 Guard (2020) Marques Warrick has an excellent skill package and has an excellent upside.  6-2 Guard (2020) Sebian Dillard moves in from Louisville and can hit the jumper.  Chapmanville (WV) – 6-9 Forward (2020) Obinna Killen shoots, rebounds, and blocks shots.  6-8 (2022) David Tubek is very athletic, shoots, rebounds, and has unlimited upside.  6-1 PG (2020) Andrew Shull has good point guard skills and shoots the ball.  Bryan Station – 5-10 PG (2020) James Lindsay is hard to defend in the open court.  Fern Creek – 6-7 Forward (2021) Darrius Washington has the potential to be special.  Frederick Douglass – 6-2 Guard (2021) DaShawn Jackson is a strong guard with good skills.  George Rogers Clark – 6-7 Forward (2020) Lincoln Bush has the tools (scores, rebounds, and blocks shots) to be an impact player.  Harlan County – 6-6 (2020) Taylor Spurlock can score from all areas on the floor.  6-0 PG (2024) Trenton Noah has all the skills and the future appears bright for this talented youngster.  Harlan Independent – 5-10 PG (2022) Jordan Akal pushes the tempo and scores in bunches.  Scott County – 6-6 Forward (2020) Terrin Hamilton can be as good as he wants to be, the skill package is there and he can be a match-up nightmare.  Sevier County (TN) – 5-9 PG (2020) Marvin Castro has high basketball IQ and can finish in traffic.  Louisville Southern – 6-7 Forward (2021) CeArius “King” Warren athleticism is off the charts and will posterize you around the rim.  Lafayette – 6-10 Center (2020) Ray Surratt has good offensive skills and gets the job done.  Lexington Catholic – 6-3 Guard (2021) Ben Johnson has unlimited range on his shot and rapidly improving off the dribble.  Male – 6-5 Guard (2020) Howard Fleming is an athletic guard and a versatile scorer.  6-5 (2020) Noah Courtney is very athletic and a capable scorer.  6-6 Forward (2023) Kaleb Glenn is one to watch for the future and is already impressing veteran observer.  5-11 Guard (2020) Tyren Moore is quick, creates, and can score.  Marion County – 6-6 Forward (2020) Jameson Epps rebounds, handles, and scores.  6-0 PG (2020) Tyshay Epps quick and a versatile scorer.  Martin County – 6-10 (2021) Trey James rebounds, blocks shots, and alters countless shots in a game.  Paintsville – 6-4 Guard (2022) Colby Fugate has the size and skills to be very good.  Pulaski County – 5-9 PG (2020) Colton Fraley is smooth, shoots the ball, and lives for the pressure moment.  Woodford County – 6-0 Guard (2020) Anthony Tabor is a high IQ point guard that can make shots.

Once again congratulations to the KBC for hosting this outstanding event named for three Kentucky basketball legends, Shelvin Mack, Darius Miller, and Chris Lofton.  Please read the reports and twitter accounts by some of the recruiting gurus and reporters that covered this event.
