West Carter (Region 16) vs. Owensboro Catholic (Region 3)

 

West Carter coach Jeremy Webb started the following lineup: 6-1 Jr. Trevor Callahan, 6-0 Sr. Trace Tackett, 6-2 Sr. Dominick Dean, 5-6 Jr. Tyson  Webb, and 5-7 Sr. Braden Leadingham.  Owensboro Catholic coach Tim Riley countered with 6-2 So. JI Webb, 6-1 Jr. Gray Weaver, 6-3 Sr. Drew Hartz, 5-6 So. Brian Griffith, and 6-0 Sr. Andrew Riney.

 

Owensboro Catholic defeated West Carter by the score of 62-33.  Owensboro Catholic shot 48.8% from the field including seven of 10 from the three point line.  The Aces connected on 13 of 27 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 12 West Carter turnovers.  West Carter shot 28.3% from the field including two of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Comets connected on one of four free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored eight points off 10 Owensboro Catholic turnovers.

 

Brian Griffith led Owensboro Catholic with 19 points including eight of 10 free throws, three rebounds, and three assists.  Drew Hartz added 14 points including three three point baskets, six rebounds, and three assists.  Gray Weaver recorded 11 points including three three point baskets, four rebounds, three assists, and four blocked shots.  JI Webb chipped in with seven points and seven rebounds.

 

Braden Leadingham led West Carter with eight points, seven rebounds, and two assists.  Trace Tackett and Trevor Callahan each scored six points.

Frankfort withstood a late rally from Bishop Brossart to earn a 57-52 victory.  Frankfort shot 57.1% from the field including seven of 16 from the three point line.  The Panthers connected on 10 of 13 free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 14 Bishop Brossart turnovers.  Bishop Brossart shot 37.5% from the field including eight of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Mustangs connected on 14 of 22 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored seven points off 16 Frankfort turnovers.

 

Chaz Austin led a balanced Frankfort scoring attack with 16 points including two three point baskets, seven rebounds, one blocked shot, and four steals.  Will O’Bryan added 15 points including three three point baskets.  Jackson Twombly recorded 12 points and three blocked shots.  6-2 Sr. Reed Miklavcic chipped in with 10 points including two three point baskets.

 

Stephen Verst led Bishop Brossart with 23 points including six three point baskets, five of seven free throws, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Ethan Eilerman added 10 points including four of five free throws, two rebounds, and two steals.  David Govan and Carson Schirmer recorded eight and seven points respectively.

Wyatt Ray Blythe hit a jump shot with eight seconds on the clock to give Metcalfe County a 48-47 victory over Holy Cross (Louisville).  The score was tied five times and there were seven lead changes in this game.  Metcalfe County shot 39% from the field including six of 16 from the three point line.  The Hornets connected on 10 of 17 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored four points off eight Holy Cross (Louisville) turnovers.  Holy Cross (Louisville) shot 39.6% from the field including two of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Cougars connected on seven of 15 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 14 Metcalfe County turnovers.

 

Peyton Dial led Metcalfe County with 19 points including four three point baskets and seven rebounds.  Jax Allen added eight points including two three point baskets, six rebounds, and two assists.  Boston Devore recorded six points and four rebounds.  Wyatt Fields also chipped in with six points.

 

Sam Bearden led Holy Cross (Louisville) with 17 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.  Luke Brutscher added 11 points and five rebounds.  Josh Minor recorded 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals.

Grant Whitaker led Murray with 17 points and six rebounds.  Darius Duffy added 11 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocked shots.  5-7 So. Charqwan McCallister recorded nine points.  Charvelle McCallister chipped in with eight points, three rebounds, and two assists.

Logan Hall led Hazard with 16 points including four of four free throws, and four rebounds.  Wade Pelphrey added 16 points including two three point baskets, four of five free throws, three rebounds, and four assists.  Reece Fletcher pulled down eight rebounds.

Paintsville defeated Harlan by the score of 67-60.  Paintsville shot 49.1% from the field including three of 14 from the three point line.  The Tigers connected on 10 of 16 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored eight points off eight Harlan turnovers.  Harlan shot 38.9% from the field including 10 of 27 from beyond the arc.  The Green Dragons connected on eight of 11 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored five points off three Paintsville turnovers.

 

Colby Fugate led Paintsville with 26 points including five of eight free throws, nine rebounds, and five assists.  Nick Keeton added 20 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, and two blocked shots.  Braxton Tharp recorded nine points, six rebounds, and nine assists. 

 

Jordan Akal led Harlan with 35 points including seven three point baskets ,eight of nine free throws, and three assists.  Jae’dyn Gist added 12 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.  John Eldridge recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Somerset pulled away in the final quarter to defeat Gallatin County by the score of 46-37.  There were three ties and six lead changes in the game.  Somerset shot 42.9% from the field including one of eight from the three point line.  The Briar Jumpers connected on 15 of 21 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 11 Gallatin County turnovers.  Gallatin County shot 35.9% from the field including three of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Wildcats connected on six of seven free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 10 Somerset turnovers.

 

Dylan Burton led Somerset with 17 points including four of five free throws, two rebounds, and two assists.  Kade Grundy added 11 points including five of six free throws, three rebounds, and five assists.  Kaiya Sheron recorded 10 points including four of four free throws, and eight rebounds.  Jase Bruner chipped in with five points and nine rebounds.

Frankfort defeated Murray 49-47 in overtime.  The score was tied three times and there were nine lead changes in the game.  Frankfort shot 30.9%  from the field including two of 16 from the three point line.  The Panthers connected on 13 of 21 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored seven points off 16 Murray turnovers.  Murray shot 36.7% from the field including four of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Tigers connected on seven of 13 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored 10 points off eight Frankfort turnovers.

 

Jackson Twombly led Frankfort with 26 points including seven of 10 free throws, and five rebounds.  Chaz Austin added 16 points on three of three free throws, and 12 rebounds.

 

6-2 Sr. Hunter Utley led Murray with 12 points including two three point baskets, four of six free throws, and seven rebounds.  Darius Duffy added six points, 18 rebounds, and five blocked shots.  5-6 So. St. Henry coach David Faust started the following lineup:6-3 Jr. Wyatt Vieth, 6-1 Sr. Luke Maher, 6-2 Jr. Jude Bessler, 5-9 Sr. Connor Shea, and 5-10 Sr. Alex Daniel.  Hazard coach Al Holland countered with 6-2 Sr. Logan Hall, 6-0 Sr. Reece Fletcher, 6-3 Sr. Jacob Johnson, 5-8 Jr. Jarrett Napier, and 5-6 Jr. Wade Pelphrey.

 

Hazard led 28-19 at halftime but St. Henry outscored the Bulldogs 23-7 in the third quarter on their way to a 55-41 victory.  There was one tie and one lead change in this game.  St .Henry shot 38.3% from the field including eight of 22 from the three point line.  The Crusaders connected on 11 of 13 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 16 Hazard turnovers.  Hazard shot 35.6% from the field including four of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Bulldogs connected on five of 11 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 12 points of  12 St. Henry turnovers.

 

Jude Bessler led St. Henry with 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two blocked shots.  Wyatt Vieth added 14 points including two three point baskets, six of six free throws, five rebounds, and two steals.  5-10 Jr. Ryan Butler recorded seven points and two rebounds.  6-4 Jr. Cody Teeten added six points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots.

 

Wade Pelphrey led Hazard with 14 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  Logan Hall added nine points and five rebounds.  Jacob Johnson recorded seven points and Reece Fletcher pulled down seven rebounds.

St. Henry earned the championship with a 77-70 victory over Frankfort.  The score was tied twice and there were four lead changes in the game.  St. Henry shot 52.1% from the field including five of 12 from the three point line.  The Crusaders connected on 22 of 26 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 11 Frankfort turnovers.  Frankfort shot 46.3% from the field including seven of 22 from beyond the arc.  The Panthers connected on 13 of 18 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 12 St. Henry turnovers.

 

Wyatt Vieth led St. Henry with 30 points including two three point baskets, eight of eight free throws, six rebounds, and two assists.  5-10 Jr. Ryan Butler added 15 points, three rebounds, and three assists.  Jude Bessler recorded 12 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Connor Shea chipped in with nine points including four of five free throws.

 

Jackson  Twombly led Frankfort with 17 points including two three point baskets, five of six free throws, six rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Jordan Blythe added 14 points, four rebounds, and four assists.  Charles Ellis recorded 12 points including four of four free throws, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Will O’Bryan chipped in with 10 points including two three point baskets, and five rebounds.
