Somerset coach Shawn Thacker started the following lineup:  6-3 Sr. A. J. Sharpe, 6-2 Sr. Andy Cole, 6-6 Sr. Nathan Holton, 6-1 Sr. Chip Clay, and 6-0 Sr. Eric Wilson.  Tates Creek coach Joe Pat Covington countered with 6-4 Jr. John Watkins, 6-2 So. Michael Sparks, 6-6 Sr. Pete Nochta, 5-10 Sr. Greg Combs, and 5-10 Sr. Jaron Thomas.

Tates Creek took a 23-10 first quarter lead, survived a Somerset rally in the fourth quarter, and pulled away for a 70-59 victory.  Somerset cut the deficit to three, 46-43, early in the final period before Tates Creek rallied to take control of the game.

Tates Creek shot 48% from the field, connected on 20 of 40 free throws, and pulled down 38 rebounds.  Tates Creek scored 33 points off 26 Somerset turnovers.  Somerset shot 44.4% from the field, was 17 of 31 from the free throw line, and pulled down 34 rebounds.  Somerset scored 16 points off 21 Tates Creek turnovers.

Michael Sparks led a balanced Tates Creek attack with 15 points and nine rebounds.  Jaron Thomas added 14 points, and John Watkins, who was named player of the game, added 11 points and six rebounds.  Greg Combs also recorded double figures with 10 points.  6-4 Sr. Ray Norman paced Somerset with 23 points and eight rebounds.  Nathan Holton and Ross Deaton added 10 points each.
